Practical Case Study: Web Design for a Newly Established General Practice
Initial Situation & Objective
A general practitioner is opening a new practice. The goal of the website is to clearly and understandably guide patients through organizational processes – especially for appointments, prescriptions, and referrals. The design should support the practice organization and reduce the team’s workload.
lilac-media handles the concept development and design of a clear, user-friendly website.
Phase 1: Design Analysis
At the beginning, we jointly defined which tasks the website should perform for patients. The focus was on orientation, clarity, and reducing follow-up questions.
No corporate design existed. The client did not want a logo, only specifying the color world of burgundy, white, and silver-grey, along with a deliberately simple, clear appearance.
The content was prepared collaboratively: The client provided brief, concise texts, while lilac-media took authentic photos on site at the practice.
Phase 2: Design Concept
Based on the analysis, we developed a design concept that works without a logo and with very minimal text. The choice of typography became a key design element.
A wide, sans-serif font was used, which creates visual presence even with little text and is also highly readable. The font conveys stability and security – regardless of the content.
Phase 3: Visual Design
The design follows a compact, calm layout with clear navigation. Burgundy is used purposefully as a key color to highlight menu elements and central calls-to-action.
The menu labels are intentionally action-oriented so that patients can instantly see how to book appointments or address their concerns. The content area is designed to be understated, making information quick and distraction-free to grasp.
Phase 4: Design Finalization & Handover
After consultation with the general practitioner, the design was applied consistently to all page types and finalized. Each page was assigned a thematically appropriate practice photo.
Layouts optimized for readability were developed for the texts and vary according to content type. The final design prototype was handed over and forms the creative foundation for upcoming pages and content.
