Even the web has an ecological footprint – and we help keep it small. With clear structure, lightweight code and sustainable hosting we design digital solutions that not only convince users but also conserve resources. For us, good web development is always also a piece of responsibility.
The "CO2-neutral Website" Initiative
Producing products of any kind harms the environment. As web developers we do not produce conventional products but intangible ones. That does not change the fact that the products we create (websites and web applications) also place a heavy burden on the environment. Surfing the Internet consumes a tremendous amount of electricity. The web servers that run day and night consume power, as do the computers of Internet users. This leads to large amounts of CO2 emissions. It is estimated that the use of the Internet today causes more CO2 than air freight!
"CO2 neutral Website" is a global initiative with the aim of neutralizing these CO2 emissions caused by the Internet through voluntary participation. Participating companies pay a corresponding amount, based on the emissions caused by visiting their own homepage, into the initiative. This counters the damage to the environment.
Both large and small companies from all over the world participate in the project. We have had our certificate since March 15, 2010.
The result of the "CO2-neutral Website" initiative is climate-friendly browsing for the visitors of the participating websites.
Sustainability in Resource Use
What we need: web servers, notebooks, electricity, Internet, telephone, a small office with minimal setup (3 chairs and 3 desks, a conference table and 4 visitor chairs), little paper but lots of ideas, creativity, experience and concentration. These are our resources.
Green electricity...
we obtain from the green electricity provider Lichtblick.
Recycled Paper...
we need little, as our processes are predominantly conducted electronically. We buy recycled printer paper at Weltladen Halle.
Our Website...
is environmentally friendly - through participation in the CO2-neutral Website initiative.
Our daily commute to the office...
we do it by bicycle. We also travel to customers on site in Halle by bike.
We have bikes from the Bicycle Manufactory. Riding them is fun!
