Web services also have an ecological footprint – and we help to keep it small. With clear structures, lightweight code, and sustainable hosting, we create digital solutions that not only convince users but also conserve resources. For us, good web development always includes a sense of responsibility.
The "CO2-Neutral Website" Initiative
Producing products of any kind impacts the environment. As web developers, we produce immaterial products rather than conventional physical goods. Nevertheless, the websites and web applications we create also significantly strain the environment. Surfing the internet consumes immense amounts of electricity. Web servers, which operate around the clock, use a lot of power, as do users' computers. This results in large CO2 emissions. It is estimated that today's internet usage causes more CO2 emissions than air freight!
The "CO2-Neutral Website" initiative is a global movement aiming, on a voluntary basis, to offset these internet-related CO2 emissions. Participating companies pay a corresponding amount based on the emissions generated by accessing their homepage into the initiative, thereby compensating for environmental damage.
Both large and small companies worldwide participate in this project. We have held our certificate since March 15, 2010.
The result of the "CO2-Neutral Website" initiative is eco-friendly browsing for visitors of participating websites.
Sustainable Resource Management
What we need: Web servers, laptops, electricity, internet, telephone, a small office with minimal furnishings (3 chairs and 3 desks, a conference table, and 4 visitor chairs), hardly any paper, but lots of ideas, creativity, experience, and focus. These are our resources.
Green Electricity...
We obtain our electricity from the eco-power provider Lichtblick.
Recycling Paper...
We use very little, as our workflows are primarily digital. We purchase recycled printer paper from Weltladen Halle.
Our Website...
is environmentally friendly – through participation in the "Co2-Neutral Website" initiative.
Our Daily Commute to the Office...
We do it by bike. We also travel by bike to client locations in Halle.
We ride bikes from the Fahrradmanufaktur. Cycling is fun!
