Blog about Website and Marketing - Archiv

How about investing some time into your own homepage? Perhaps creating your homepage was already a few years ago. That was definitely a very active phase for you, even if you hired a professional company for it. What happened afterward with your homepage? Have your activities faded out? And maybe you tell yourself that your homepage actually doesn’t bring you anything? Then now is a good opportunity to take a closer look at it.
We have three tips for you:
- Update and archive
- View with the customer’s perspective
- Check the organic search
Update and archive
If we create a redesign for clients, we give the old homepage a new look. And what often happens then? These clients suddenly see that they have completely outdated content or unsuitable texts or images on their homepage. They are genuinely surprised because they had “actually forgotten about that.” How can that happen? The homepage has completely fallen out of daily focus!
What you can do now:
- Review your content and check which content can be removed or needs to be revised.
- Archive your news if they are still interesting.
- Update the most important topics to bring new life to your homepage.
View the website with the customer’s perspective
Even the “look and feel” of your website can be eye-opening when you take a critical look from time to time. Especially if you have become so accustomed to it that you are “blind” to its current state.
What you can do now:
Put on the customer’s glasses symbolically. It can also be helpful to ask someone else to do this for you.
Ask yourself:
- Can your customer find the most important information on your homepage quickly?
- Is your homepage still visually attractive and contemporary? Or has it become outdated as things around it have evolved over the years?
- Does your homepage still fit your business? Or has this changed but your website does not reflect that?
Check the organic search
Do you know how well your homepage is found? Your company name should make that an easy task. But does your homepage also appear when people do not know your name?
What you can do now:
- Enter your industry and your location into Google for testing. Or use another search query that your customers might use to find your services or products.
- It’s also a good idea to ask friends and acquaintances what they would search for to find the services or products you offer.
Does your homepage appear poorly or only on the later pages? Check which pages Google has in its index by entering a site:- query with your domain in Google. For example, for our website, the search input would be: site:www.lilac-media.de. Ideally, all your pages should be found here. This means Google has your homepage generally in its index. If not, talk to your web agency.
If you are not satisfied with the ranking, now is the right time to optimize your content. Improvements will only become noticeable after a few weeks.
We wish you good ideas and are happy to help!
